Staff

Dr Mark van Harmelen

Mark is a specialist in computer architecture, software engineering, and user interaction design. He is currently mostly concerned with web services for learning support and knowledge generation; working from a user needs perspective. As part of this, Mark is closely concerned with technology to enable peer-assisted learning in formal and informal learning contexts. Mark started and continues to lead Hedtek’s Personal Learning Environment project.

In the past Mark lectured in Computer Science at the University of Manchester, was a Senior Researcher at National/Panasonic’s Tokyo Research Centre, and worked as an independent consultant before establishing Hedtek. He retains close links with the University of Manchester’s School of Computer Science, where he is an Honorary Research Fellow.

David Workman

David is a software engineer with a deep and extensive knowledge of his field. His primary focii are Web applications, search, SQL and noSQL databases, graphics applications and simulations, and the construction of tools.

David was formerly a Software Engineer at EMCC Consulting where he worked for several years of work on high-profile mobile phone applications. Outside of work, he is the webmaster for a national organisation and has a presence in several online technical communities.

Robert Burrell Donkin

Robert is a software engineer specialises in agile and open source methods, principles, techniques and tools. He works enterprise and internet object-oriented development, design and architecture, particularly specialising in concurrent, multi-threaded and distributed Java (Swing, J2SE and J2EE) and in build, release, delivery integration, versioning and automation tools and technologies.

Robert has strong interests in early stage software projects, innovation, start-ups, coaching, training and technical leadership.

Robert was elected as Member of The Apache Software Foundation in July 2005 and has served the Foundation in various roles.

Ashish Sehra

Ashish is a software engineer who specialises in Ruby on Rails server and client-side development using browser and native mobile app technologies.

He formerly specialised in mobile technologies and front-end design while working for Einstix Technologies in India and the Middle East.

Daniel Ghilea

Daniel is a software Engineer who specialises in Ruby on Rails server and client-side development using browser technologies. He is also strongly interested in NoSQL databases, and their use in Rails-based systems. Daniel works part time for Hedtek as part of his larger contractor profile.

Anita Workman

Originally a philosophy graduate, Anita now acts as a user-level acceptance tester for Hedtek projects where she applies a fine eye for detail.

Alex Tse

Alex is currently a trainee at Hedtek, having previously graduated from the University of Manchester’s conversion course MSc in Computer Science with a distinction.

Renata Vitovjakova

Renata is Hedtek’s financial and office manager, who, we suspect, keeps an administration Kanban board active in her head at all times.
